My practice in psychotherapy is guided by Jean Watson’s Theory of Human Caring and Person Centered Theory. The theory of human caring offers a definition of nursing that is congruent with my personal beliefs. It defines nursing as the practice of embracing positive energy that flows from an integrated spirit, body and mind, and is mutually rewarding for both the nurse and patient. As a nurse I would feel personally satisfied and fulfilled when my patients report positive results, and distressed if they report negative results (Iwasiw, Andrusyszyn& Goldenberg, 2019). The person centered theory would guide my practice in psychotherapy by suggesting that clients would report the best results if encouraged to focus on the current subjective understandings rather than focusing on how others interpret a situation or unconscious motives (Sanwick, Forrest & O’Brien, 2019). The two theories encourage nurses to actively engage in providing nursing care through intentionality and authentic presence thereby optimizing the patient’s capacity for comprehensive healing. Besides that, the two theories allow me to make a difference in nursing care through authentically interacting with patients as I affirm and safeguard their humanity. Also, the two theories allow me to regenerate my energies as a care provider (Gaberson, Oermann&Shellenbarger, 2015).Analyze nursing and counseling Theories to Guide practice in Psychotherapy.
In attending the practicum experience in this course, I intend to achieve four goals. The first goal is to experience teaching in a classroom setting through receiving feedback and instructions from faculty and supervisors. The second goal is to build my experiences and abilities with faculty collaboration and inquiry. The third goal is to learn nursing operations with the change to work with patients. The fourth goal is to fulfil the specific expectations of the course as outlined. I intend to achieve three objectives. The first objective is to understand the educational goals of the course and how they relate to the practicum. The second objective is to understand the course conceptualization and execution to include its outline while gaining firsthand experience. The third objective is to acquire nursing management skills that revolve around addressing the needs of patients to include providing nursing care, holding discussions with other medical personnel, and answering questions from patients.Analyze nursing and counseling Theories to Guide practice in Psychotherapy.
