The article describes the emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases as serious health concerns in Iran. The increase of these illnesses is attributed to human behavior and demographic changes as well as alterations of the ecology and the microbes, development in agriculture, susceptibility and international travels (Parhizgari, Gouya&Mostafavi, 2017). Infectious diseases are caused by fungus, viruses and bacteria.
Emerging and re-emerging infections are public health concerns which demand increased input from the nursing practice. This involves development of preventive measures, control and elimination of the illnesses (Perfect et al., 2017). Moreover, they are constantly undermining the effectiveness of the nursing practice considering their leading role in the cause of morbidity and mortality (Kundu, Mandal & Bhattacharya, 2018). They also compel the nurses formulate new and urgent treatment options to control the non-existing conditions. Due the infectious nature, emerging infections are likely to increase safety demands for nursing practitioners to prevent contraction of the disease. To manage them effectively, professional and personal development is essential to acquire skills and knowledge essential for personal practice.
Multiple diseases are emerging in Iran due to the changes in demographics and behaviors of the population. Moreover, increased migration of people across the Iranian borders introduces vectors and pathogens in the country resulting in their rapid spread (Parhizgari, Gouya&Mostafavi, 2017). In this case, the nursing role in prevention and management of these diseases include improvement of surveillance systems to predict the emergence of these infections with regard to time and situations. Moreover, further interventions should follow early warning to prevent the spread in risky areas (Sigfrid et al., 2018).
