Although countries across the globe are struggling with the difficulty of rising health care expenditures, the U.S. is also faced with the problem of delivering high quality and consistent care. Some people believe that the healthcare delivery system in the United States does not offer consistent, high-quality health care to Americans. There are several reasons that contribute to the face that the current healthcare system in the United States is not functioning effectively and efficiently as it could. These factors include unprecedented technological advancements, changing healthcare needs of the public, the growing intricacy of health care and an uncoordinated and poorly organized system of health care delivery (Cherry & Jacob, 2018). According to Cherry and Jacob (2018), the Accountable Care Act (ACA) was intended to improve the efficiency and quality of health care services for all Americans. Although the ACA increased the number of insured Americans and enabled them to get the recommended care, the rate of improvement varies with health care disparities and quality widely varying across regions and states. A huge number of individuals are currently uninsured because they are unable to pay for coverage or reside in states that did not expand Medicaid. Health care delivery is fragmented because some healthcare organizations, physician groups, and hospitals still function as disconnected silos thus are unable to share effectively share data on the patient’s medical history or medications offered by different providers. Additionally, implementation of quality improvement can ensure that the services provided to all people are based on scientific knowledge and prevent wastage of supplies, equipments and health provider’s energy (Cherry & Jacob, 2018).
