I understand that the IOM Future of Nursing Recommendations are a list of statements that present strategies that would allow nursing personnel to take on more leadership positions within the health care industry. I am particularly concerned with three recommendations in the report. Recommendation 4 mentions that by 2020, there should be an 80% increase in the proportion of nursing personnel with abaccalaureate degree. I am presently attending a baccalaureate nursing degree program and will meet the conditions set for this recommendation upon graduation (Institute of Medicine, 2018). Recommendation 5 mentions that by 2020, the number of doctorate nurses should be doubled. I am presently enrolled in a baccalaureate nursing degree program and is unlikely to graduate from a doctorate degree program by 2020 as the recommendation mentions. Still, I intend to implement a cycle of learning and practice until I graduate from a doctorate program in the nursing specialty I will find most interesting to me (Institute of Medicine, 2018).

Recommendation 6 calls for ensuring that nursing personnel engage in lifelong learning. Although I am currently pursuing a baccalaureate nursing degree, I do not intend this to make the end of my learning. In fact, I intend to pursue a cycle of learning and experience whereby I will graduate from the current program, practice for two years before enrolling for a higher learning level. Once I graduate from the baccalaureate nursing program, I intend to practice as a registered nurse in a general practice facility. This is intended to enable me gain practical experience and identify a nursing specialty that will hold my interest for the long-term even as I enroll for higher levels of education (Mason et al., 2015).
Effect of increasing level of education on capacity to compete in the current job market
An increase in my education level will improve my prospects and capacity to compete in the current job market. That is because each increase in the level of education is an indication of improved nursing skills, knowledge, experience and competence thus allowing me to take on more professional responsibilities confidently (Roussel, 2013).
Effect of increasing level of education on role in future of nursing
The future of nursing intends to have more nursing personnel taking on leadership positions in the health care industry. Through increasing my level of education, I will improve my nursing knowledge, skills, experience and competence thus allowing me to take on leadership positions with greater confidence (Curran, 2016).
