It is a legal responsibility since my certification and registration outline what I can do as a nurse, and acting beyond what I am allowed could expose me to legal ramifications. Yes, it is important for leaders to exercise professional advocacy, authenticity, power and influence when working with colleagues. This is because leaders are a bridge between the different stakeholders and levels of management in setting policies and overseeing quality measures. In addition, they are typically more knowledgeable, experiences, skilled and competent than the other team members thereby placing in a unique position to influence policy.
