ProQuest and PubMed were the two databases that I used to do my research. The search terms I used included “nursing shortage,” “nurse shortage,” “nurse-patient ratio,” “patient safety,” and “patient satisfaction.” When I searched the PubMed database, I found 168 papers; however, when I used limiters to confine the years of publication to 2017-2022 the number of publications was reduced to 80 articles. My search was facilitated by the use of Boolean operators, which produced 14 search results when I included the words “nurse shortage and patient safety.” The same approach was used on the ProQuest database, and the resultant articles were reduced to just seven.

When I initially started searching, it was difficult, but turning to the resource materials to figure out what I was doing incorrectly was beneficial. Restricting the year of publication and picking peer-reviewed publications aids in the elimination of irrelevant content. Using the aforementioned technique, I aim to save time and obtain the resources I will need in my future research.
