Ethical Considerations and Implications
In any research, ethics is a very important consideration. The bioethical principles of autonomy (respecting the subject’s wishes) and nonmaleficence (not causing any harm) are specifically important in research. In this research, sampling was selective from a public university hospital. This implies that the parents of the children had no option but to participate in the study even if they may have had reservations. There was thus no autonomy. Also, data was collected through OOFC. This meant exposing the children to a potential allergen. This violates nonmaleficence. What all this means is that in the first place, the sampling should have been random, with the parents of the children asked whether they would have liked to participate in the study. This should have been done after thorough explanation of what the study entailed and the potential consequences if any. On data collection, instead of subjecting the children to potential food allergens, the researchers should have just done a retrospective case control study of the children who were already exposed.Statistics in Nursing with article Analysis/ethical Considerations. This could have been more humane and ethical. Lastly, the publishing of the findings of this particular research study in itself does not appear ethical at all. This is because the study design and methodology was already ethically flawed from the outset, as discussed above.
