The Economically Disadvantaged are Among the Vulnerable Populations.
Discussion Question CAT 3
Community health nurses (CHNs) work with individuals from diverse backgrounds, the majority who are marginalized and disadvantaged. CNHs work with individuals, groups, and families to empower people to access care and to adopt healthy lifestyles (Fooladi, 2015). They also provide education to the members of the community regarding health maintenance to ensure that the prevalence of diseases and mortality rates reduces. CHNs also plan health educational meetings, provide fliers with health information, perform health screenings, dispense drugs, and administer vaccinations. Community health nurses in most cases engage and interact with the vulnerable populations during care provision (Fooladi, 2015). In healthcare, vulnerability is based on health and healthcare inequalities; risk for disease, and social status. Venerable populations encompass people living in poverty, the elderly, children, immigrants, the marginalized, and people of color. The Economically Disadvantaged are Among the Vulnerable Populations.

CHNs can support and advocate for the vulnerable populations by ensuring that they have improved access to primary healthcare and promoting healthy lifestyles and wellness in these populations. When the community health nurses meet patients in the community settings, they reaching the vulnerable populations cost-effectively (Bliss & While, 2014). CHNs can achieve this by partnering with patients to address the health problems by integrating the socioeconomic and environmental factors and integrate patient’s belief systems, lifestyles, and individual issues into the nursing process. because in-home setting patients whole determine their behaviors, CHNs can assist patients to internalize healthy behaviors through education and implementing the care plan to the specific patient.
The economically disadvantaged are among the vulnerable populations. This population can be helped by improving access to care, making health care affordable, and advocating for equality in healthcare, and educating this population about healthy lifestyles. The CHN can advocate for policies that facilitate improved access to care for the economically disadvantaged populations (Farrer et al., 2015). For example, the nurse can support universal access to high-quality care for all and support publicly funded programs that support economically disadvantaged groups. The CHN can also support efforts to provide opportunities that improve the economic status of the community members as well as social and health legislations and policies aimed to improve the social status and health status of the community members (Davoodvand et al., 2016). Additionally, a CHN can educate the economically disadvantaged about the healthy lifestyles they should adopt and the importance of going for the recommended healthcare activities such as health screening and the appropriate immunizations. The Economically Disadvantaged are Among the Vulnerable Populations.
From the economically disadvantaged populations, I have learned that factors that impact the health of the diverse populations are multifaceted. Therefore, in my nursing career, I will always advocate for holistic and dynamic interventions and policies to ensure all multifactorial factors affecting population health are addressed. For example, the health of the economically disadvantaged population is affected by factors such as poor access to healthcare, lack of medical insurance, lack of finances to afford nutritious foods and care, as well as lack of exercise facilities. The mental health of the economically disadvantaged populations is also adversely affected by the life challenges they encounter (Bliss & While, 2014). Therefore, as a nurse, it is important to ensure that all determinants of health affecting a particular population are addressed. The Economically Disadvantaged are Among the Vulnerable Populations.
