The use of Excel to complete statistical analysis has been helpful in data organization, manipulation, exploration and visualization, as well as conducting numeric computations. The charging feature has been particularly useful owing to its reporting capabilities. However, the personal experience reveals that using Excel is challenging with regards to formulas. Identifying the specific formula to use is a challenge, especially when a range of options are presented with each option presenting a different result. For instance, there are five formulas for calculating the average from a collection of values: AVEDEV, AVERAGE, AVERAGEA, AVERAGEIF, and AVERAGEIFS. To take another example, there are six formulas for calculating variance: VAR.P, VAR.S, VARA, VARPA, VAR, and VARP. Another challenge is that the Excel software interface is cluttered with many features that are not useful in routine activities thus making it difficult to find the features that are needed. For instance, finding the data analysis toolpak could be a challenge for first time users who are forced to navigate through many features before finding the toolpak.
