Treatment Plan for Anorexia Nervosa Essay Example Paper

Anorexia nervosa is a kind of eating disorder defined by unusually low body weight, an extreme phobia of weight gain, and a mistaken view of one’s own weight. Anorexia is often treated with a mix of psychological therapy, pharmacological treatment, and monitored weight gain under the supervision of a medical professional. Anorexia nervosa is seldom treated with acute pharmacologic therapy. Patients should, however, begin vitamin supplements with calcium. Additionally, despite the fact that estrogen has not been shown to have an impact on bone density in individuals with anorexia nervosa, estrogen replacement therapy has been suggested for the management of osteopenia in these individuals (Brockmeyer et al., 2017)Treatment Plan for Anorexia Nervosa Essay Example Paper.

Various psychological therapies, such as individual therapy (insight-oriented), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), cognitive analytic therapy, cognitive remediation therapy (CRT), and family-based therapy (FBT), among others have been shown to be effective in the treatment of anorexia nervosa patients (Resmark et al., 2019). The family-based treatment (FBT) for anorexia nervosa, which was shown to be better than individual therapy, may be most effective for younger people with the disorder, particularly teenagers. CRT (cognitive remediation therapy), a modification of cognitive-behavioral therapy, is more successful in assisting the patient in gaining improved cognition (Resmark et al., 2019). CRT is a manual-based approach that is particularly beneficial for motivated individuals.

Anorexia nervosa patients who are medically or psychiatrically at risk need inpatient care. There are many reasons for hospitalization, including Low weight, substantial edema, an absence of weight gain, psychotic symptoms or greater suicide risk, and much more (Brockmeyer et al., 2017).

Anorexia nervosa’s treatment plan includes regular monitoring as well. It is critical to reassess patients with mild anorexia nervosa every 1-2 months to ensure that their weight has not decreased, that their health has not deteriorated, and that they have not acquired unhealthy eating habits during this time. Continual monitoring must be performed in order for the patient to avoid reaching the moderate stage.
